EcoTrash is a newly formed project, where people with disabilities collect cans and foil for recycling from organisations in Bedfordshire and Luton.
This pilot scheme is operated by LuDun Works, a Bedfordshire County Council establishment in Dunstable. The project aims to teach people, with both learning and physical disabilities, work base objectives and skills, such as production methods and self sufficiency. Through the project all cans and foil collected from County Hall and businesses across Bedfordshire will be sorted for recycling at LuDun Works.
The money made from selling the sorted aluminium cans on to metal recyclers goes back into supporting the project. At the same time Ecotrash will also provide opportunities for participants to work towards a qualification, so individuals will be able to gain worthwhile employment in the future.
The Dunstable-based enterprise aims to offer this service to clubs, pubs, schools, businesses or any community outlet.
